E-cigarettes Outperform Patches and Gum in a Smoking Cessation Study

A recent study shows that vaping can be crucial when it comes to helping smokers quit smoking. The findings show that vaping is twice as better when compared to nicotine gum and patches. The study was carried out in Britain and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. These findings came as a relief to doctors, who have been having difficulties giving answers to their patients who have been inquiring about e-cigarettes. Now there is enough evidence to endorse e-cigarettes as better alternatives to patches and gums when it comes to helping smokers to quit smoking. The study will also shape the debate about vaping, as no conclusive studies were carried out in the past to prove how vaping is better compared to traditional cigarettes. With smoking being a major cause of preventable deaths worldwide, endorsing e-cigarettes can help prevent these deaths.

Vaping products can be approved to help smokers quit smoking

In a country like the U.S., no e-cigarette has been approved as a means of helping smokers quit smoking. However, as a result of the findings of this study, this can change within no time. Studies show that e-cigarettes are free of the chemical substances that lead to death for smokers. Traditional cigarettes contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive substance. Quitting smoking these substances has proven to be challenging, although the smokers are aware of the inherent dangers. In the U.S. alone, around 54% of smokers attempt to quit smoking, but unfortunately only about 7% manage to succeed. If vaping products like those found at ePuffer are approved to help smokers quit smoking, then we will no longer have to worry about the dangers of smoking.

Highly sophisticated vaping devices are a major advantage

The e-cigarette industry has been experiencing a massive growth since the beginning of 2007. One of the major contributors to this growth is the portable battery-powered devices, which heat the flavored e-liquids solutions to turn them to vapor and thus be inhaled. Studies indicate that e-cigarette vapor is less harmful compared to cigarette smoke, in that it does not contain the chemical substances that cause cancer. There is no information that can be used to draw conclusive evidence that e-cigarette vapor is harmful.

Patches and gum are not as effective as e-cigarettes

In the past, there have been studies that give conflicting reports on whether e-cigarettes can indeed help smokers completely stop the habit. Others have argued that there is little evidence to prove the same. In this smoking cessation study, 900 smokers were randomly given e-cigarettes or products that can replace nicotine, like patches and gum. After a period of one year, 18% of the smokers assigned with e-cigarettes were smoke-free, compared to 9.9% who were assigned patches and gum. With heart disease, lung disease, and cancer being the major complications arising from the use of traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes can help prevent these problems if endorsed as substitutes to patches and gum.
