Did you see my post on Facebook back in December about the “19 Things” that I had to create for our little ones classroom? Well, I know it’s late but it’s just such a cute little craft I still wanted to share it. Plus, this craft can be found on every corner of the web but it always so much I wanted to share with you my spin on it.
We usually have large boxes of crayolas that I pick up from the Dollar Tree every now and again so having broken or new crayons are always in our house {mostly broken}.
Let me tell you about a little secret, this craft works great if you have little ones around my kids age {6} that love to chat and stay busy. They spent almost a full two hours….that’s right, I said TWO hours peeling the crayola paper away. Those little brains twisted and turned and their fine motor skills were working hard. Priceless!
So here’s what you need:
- Crayons – You can purchase the 48 count at DollarTree
for $1 or use what you have at home for free.
- Popsicle Sticks – 100 count $2.00 at Michaels
- Mini Cupcake Liners – FREE at Smith’s clearance
- Small Baggies – 100 ct self sealing bags 3″x4″ $2.47 at Michaels or Target
- Labels – you will fall in love with iShareprintables {one of my favorite sites to check out daily.
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 250°F for even baking.
- Place a muffin cup in each cup of the muffin tray, hint: do not spray with non stick spray.
- Place small amount of crayons in each cup. Do not overfill cups, what you see above is about what I used.

- Pop them in the oven for approx 10 minutes or until completely melted.
- Remove baking tray from oven and allow to cool outside of over for 5 minutes. I like to place them in the refrigeration for 5 minutes and right before they are completely set, I place the stick on top.

- Remove and peel off paper muffin cups.
- Decorate with a fun holiday label – think of Valentine’s Day already!
I’ve done this craft for about 3 three now with our kids and so I must say, it’s the best and easiest, cost effective way to enjoy our kids, make a school project and have fun. This project is very customizable for any season and you can alter it to best suit your occasion. Enjoy!

SO glad that you put “do not eat” on the label….they look good enough to eat!
And you don’t think you’re crafty….huh?
I love them!

What a cute idea! And I laughed out loud about your comment about keeping little hands busy peeling off those paper wrappers on the crayons. What is it with that?! It seems to be something that every little kid does.

Totally have to keep them busy
