Have you ever signed up for Nielsen Home Scan before? I’ll admit, I haven’t. I’ve always wanted to and hear so many great things about it. I love the fact that your opinion will have an impact on the consumer products. That just gets me. And…I hear you can also win Cash Prizes. Has anyone ever done it before? Please share your experience. If I hear from my fabulous readers, I think I’ll be persuaded to join Nielsen Home Scan Consumer Panel this time. Click through and hear the great description for NCP – National Consumer Panel.

I tried signing up for it, but they didn’t need anyone in my area. So, I’m on the waiting list.
I’ve had the Neilsen home scanner for about 4 months now. I originally signed up because my ultimate personal dream is to become a real Neilsen (TV) family and this seemed like a good first step!
The scanner is easy to set up and fairly easy to use. However, I’ll warn you, that it’s a big commitment. You have to scan every item you bring into your home (or your gas tank) and you have to punch in the price. It’s a lot of button pushing and quality time spent with your receipts. If you’re already really good about logging your receipts and tracking your spending, this might be an easy and logical next step. One big downer for me is that there is no selection on the scanner for just “local farmer’s market” and it’s difficult to imput those goods as they have no barcode. If you are wanting to become more “aware” of your personal spending, get one of these scanners and you’ll realize just how much STUFF you really buy.
Thanks Alyson for the honesty. I love to hear how it works out for others.
I agree with Alyson. I did this when it first started up. It is a big hassle. You have to scan each item individually and punch in the price and where you bought the item. Only do this it you have nothing else going on in you life. Good luck.
I also did this for about a year and would probably still be doing so had I not gotten rid of my landline. In addition to the comments above, you have to enter the coupons you use for each item, transmit your info each week and call in each week for a message. It is pretty time consuming especially with kids and especially since they added gasoline and fast food. But I have to admit I did enjoy scanning all those barcodes (reminded my of playing grocery store as a kid).
