Menu Plan Monday~DF Style 11/23

Week 6 with my Relish Menu Planning and I am still loving it, but since it’s Thanksgiving Week I will resume regular planning next week.   This wee is all about planning for Thursday.  I’ll be doing a little bit each day and freezing it for Thursday.  My goal is to eat lite, because heavy food is just too much for me.  However, for one day …I can do it!

Monday – HOLIDAY ITEM: Dressing. My family roots are southern so we make dressing and it is rich.  We start by making a couple hens, chickens or one small turkey.  Pretty much everything in those birds are going to be cook.  Neck, liver…it all (and I don’t like all that but trust me you don’t even taste when I’m done), celery, onions, broth, bread toasted, corn meal cooked to speck (it’s pretty dry when your done. Not like corn bread) Walnuts & cranberries.  This dish can be made weeks ahead of time.  The longer it has to sit, the better it taste.  With all this cooking going on this week, we could have cereal every day and I would be fine!

Tuesday – HOLIDAY ITEM: Vegetable Chopping & Dough Making & Potato Salad. Sounds simple but we use quite a bit for cooking and since I’ll be using a good chunk of my onions & celery mixture for my dressing…I will need to replenish that for other dishes. Dough is super simple so once it’s done, I just place it in the frig. I follow my hubby’s family recipe for potato salad and it is so simple and delicious. Potatoes, onions, mayo, sugar, vinegar, egg, salt & pepper.

Wednesday – HOLIDAY ITEM: Pies & Turkey Soak.  What’s on the list of Pies for our family?  Again my family is from the south so a Sweet Potato Pie is a must!! 6 to be exact. 2 for dinner and 4 for everyone to bring home.  I like to make my crust from scratch so I’ll use what was premade yesterday.  Love a flakey crust!  We will have other deserts but that’s all these little fingers will be pumping out.

Thursday – HOLIDAY: Here are the remaining items on the Menu to be cooked in the am. Sweet Potato Soufflés (I use ramekins because they’re so cute) We Grill out Turkey on the Grill so this will go on early to smoke. Green Beans, Mac & Cheese (my hubby makes the world’s best – and I don’t even want to know how he does it as long as it continues), Pecan Pie from my Grandma,  Dinner Rolls…….Then we’ll rollover onto the couch.

Friday – Left Over’s of course!

Saturday – If not left over’s….nothing!

Sunday – Really…are we still needing to eat?

Come back next week to see how our family comes down from this southern feast.
